An overview of Qt's signals and slots inter-object communication mechanism. Signals and slots are used for communication between objects. The signals and slots mechanism is a central feature of Qt and probably the part that differs most from the features provided by other frameworks. Signals and slots are made possible by Qt's meta-object system.

How Connecting Works. The first thing Qt does when doing a connection is to find out the index of the signal and the slot. Qt will look up in the string tables of the meta object to find the corresponding indexes. Then a QObjectPrivate::Connection object is created and added in the internal linked lists.

Slot takes a list of Python types of the arguments. The optional named argument name defines the slot name. If nothing is passed, the slot name will be the decorated function name. The optional named argument result specifies the return type. The optional named argument tag specifies a value to be returned by QMetaMethod.tag ().

Q_SLOTS. Use this macro to replace the slots keyword in class declarations, when you want to use Qt Signals and Slots with a 3rd party signal/slot mechanism. The macro is normally used when no_keywords is specified with the CONFIG variable in the .pro file, but it can be used even when no_keywords is not specified.

There is no equivalent of the Q_INVOKABLE macro of Qt since PySide2 slots can actually have return values. If you need to create a invokable method that returns some value, declare it as a slot, e.g.:

See also deleteLater(). [noexcept] bool QObject:: blockSignals (bool block) If block is true, signals emitted by this object are blocked (i.e., emitting a signal will not invoke anything connected to it). If block is false, no such blocking will occur.. The return value is the previous value of signalsBlocked().. Note that the destroyed() signal will be emitted even if the signals for this ...
